INSPIRED BY: The minimalist beauty of fresh-water pearls, which played to the designer’s focus on creating pared-back looks in monochromatic tones. Also key was a notable haberdashery find on a recent trip to Italy, the idea of family, and the urge to create timeless pieces capable of standing the test of time.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen grabbing late-night drinks with Alexander Wang at the Gramercy Park Hotel while discussing plans for their fall 2021 collaboration.
WEAR IT TO: The American Ballet Theater’s annual fall gala performance, before joining your fellow A-list guests on the promenade of the David H. Koch Theater for a black-tie dinner before blending in with the off-duty performers on the dance floor.
FIRST READ: Ethereal, billowy silhouettes in neutral hues and jewel tones. Think versatile separates that could work equally as office-friendly attire, or dressed-up loungewear with the addition of a pair of heels and a statement bag. Ryan and her designer husband, Garrett, stayed true to the brand’s core offering of slouchy cashmere knits teamed with tailored shorts and floaty silk skirts, while simplistic maxi dresses in muted tones screamed understated luxury and added to the versatility of the collection.
BEST LOOK: A tiered, floor-length gown featuring spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline in baby blue, which was also featured in a similar look but in sheer fabric and styled with white Mary Jane flats. Also key were the brand’s signature knit mini dresses with flirty lace hemlines, and tanks styled with high waisted trousers.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Blue jeans as part of a collaboration with SLVRLAKE Denim, 90’s-style crop tops worn under trench coats, and long sleeve maxi dresses with an asymmetrical hemline.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Is that her daughter? [Performing as part of a trio before the show]. She’s a brilliant singer – I’d pay to see her in concert.”
