Self-Portrait F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The fierce femininity and strength of the women of the late 70’s and early 80’s – think the late photographer Patrick Lichfield capturing intimate moments between Bianca and Mick Jagger at play while chilling at his adopted home of Mustique in the Caribbean.
POP-CULTURE NOD: The sort of wardrobe Amélie might pack for a trip to Montreal to audition for the latest Cirque du Soleil show.
WEAR IT TO: Your maiden visit to the Champs-Élysées in Paris with a freshly-baked baguette in one hand and a worn copy of a Yeats poetry classic in the other.
FIRST READ: Belted wrap coats and off-the-shoulder silk dresses graduated to floaty lace gowns in cream and apricot, while a series of plaid jackets and a logoed handkerchief-style dress marked a significant departure from the brand’s signature pastel midi dresses that explode annually on social media come prom.
BEST LOOK: A cream fishnet print minidress, featuring scallop detailing, long sleeves and trailing ties, worn with black booties.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Designer Han Chong delivered a fresh update on the ladylike coat, while pastel and metallic booties gave the show a London, utilitarian vibe.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “How many of the infamous pastel guipure Self-Portraits do you have in your wardrobe?”
COLOR WHEEL: Navy, black, nude, teal, red, white, petrol, grey, rust.
