Sies Marjan NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The romance involved with the process of falling in love. Designer Sander Lak failed to shed light on the object of his affection, instead discussing how he forced himself to use materials and colors he’s avoided in the past, creating a fantastical collection that added a color pop to the otherwise muted offerings for fall.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Heidi Klum grabbing dinner at Balthazar after finalizing the purchase of a second $5 million apartment on Broadway in Soho.
WEAR IT TO: Dance the night away to banging house music amid an onslaught of confetti at the Glitterbox party at House of Yes in Brooklyn.
FIRST READ: Classic silk suiting with a pajama-inspired slouchy vibe, tie-dyed pants and layered chiffon on ribbed turtlenecks, and off-the-shoulder double-breasted coats with arm cutouts rounded out the eclectic collection. Meanwhile, sequin midi dresses and cashmere wool-knit shawls played to the collection’s versatile appeal: think getups easily convertible from day to night.
BEST LOOK: A sunshine yellow cocktail gown in silk and velvet, featuring adjustable straps and flyaway wrist ties.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Ladylike flats with crystal embellishments, lace-up oxfords, and the venue’s jaw-dropping set, which involved low-hung spotlights and an explosion of Swarovski crystals.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Aimee Song, Chriselle Lim, Margaret Zhang.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I feel like I’m at a rave inside a circus inside a magic show.”
COLOR WHEEL: Neon green, black, cement, blush, taupe, gray, navy, pearl, orange, pink, fuchsia, lavender, blue, rose gold.
