SHOW: Sies Marjan – S/S 2017
LOCATION: New York City Bar Association, 42 W. 44th St.
DATE: Sept.11
START TIME: 2PM + 17mins
TOP INSTA LOOK: Ballet-inspired crisscross tops, flared power woman trousers, draped silk skirts and floaty bias-cut dresses were featured in shimmery patent leather, velvet, shaggy fur and silk in a kaleidoscope of sorbet and earthy tones, styled with barely-there makeup and loose locks amid the location’s rich surrounds.
BEHIND THE SCENES: Designer Sander Lak’s decision to select New York’s Bar Association Library as the set for his latest collection mirrored the lineup’s sexy, feminine bookish vibe, where the old-money aesthetic of the locations surrounds merged seamlessly with the youthful popping colors floating down the runway.
OFF PROBATION: A grey silk button down silk shirt, worn open and teamed with a pleated midi-skirt and shaggy grey fur coat with collared detailing.
GOOD BEHAVIOR BOND: A neon yellow, billowy asymmetrical slip with trialing ties, worn with stacked black slides.
INSPIRED BY: The concept of being a relatively new fixture on the New York Fashion Week circuit, the designer focused on selecting a venue with a lived-in, long documented regal history, which juxtaposed the series of bold, daring vixens trotted out in his bondage-influenced collection.
POP CULTURE-NOD: Sex & the City’s Carrie Bradshaw in her silky nighttime best over a sparrow-size serve of Chinese food and tucking herself in for the night on New Year’s Eve, before letting her conscience get the better of her and making post-haste on the subway amid a heavy stowstorm to head (rugged up in a fur coat and heels) to meet Miranda in Brooklyn, making it just before the stroke of midnight.
WEAR IT TO: Responding to the nerdy-equivalent of a late-night bootie call and dashing to the back stalls of the NYU Law Library to meet your dashing classmate for a midnight study session, burning the midnight oil in fierce debate over an upcoming mock trail issue as snowstorm Ajax rages on outside.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “How many of the people here do you expect would have ever gotten this close to a case law – or maybe any – book?”
SPOTTED: Veronika Heilbrunner, Samira Nasr, Aimee Song, Bryan Boy, Jennifer Grace, Ken Downing, Leaf Greener, Patty Lu, Megan Gray, Chriselle Lim, Trish Goff, Nur El Shami, Margaret Zhang, Kate Foley, Steven Kolb.
COLOR WHEEL: Neon yellow, apricot, sand, red, coral, past pink, slate, navy, orange, sand, cream, sea-foam green.
THE DOCKET: Draped wraps, crisscrossed, asymmetrical cuts and trailing accents graced the colorful collection of ladylike silk numbers, which proved equally suited to being parked fireside with a glass of pinot noir with your beau after a day on the slopes at Killington, Vermont, or as a sexy winter update worn under an oversized fur coat.
