Simon Miller S/S 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The tropical lowlands of the Congolese rainforest. Designers Chelsea Hansford and Daniel Corrigan paid homage to the vibrant flora, fauna and suite of animals inhabiting the lush surrounds of the African landform, presenting their latest collection amid a faux recreation of the lowlands via leafy palm fronts and orange bromeliads.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Yoko One relighting the Imagine Peace Tower to mark her late husband John Lennon’s 77th birthday in Reykjavik, Iceland.
WEAR IT TO: The NYC Fair Trade Coalition’s Design, Swap & Shop Fiesta at PS 321 school in Brooklyn, before wandering through the Mexican deli exterior and through the freezer door at La Milagrosa in Williamsburg for a mezcal tasting flight while discussing your upcoming trek in Machu Picchu.
FIRST READ: Color-blocking was key in Simon Miller’s lightweight and wearable collection, which featured ruched shirting, denim jackets, feminine strappy mini dresses and oversized blazers teamed with matching wide-leg pants. Adding a dose of sex appeal to the mix was a pair of black patent leather pants, worn with a marigold print silk tank.
BEST LOOK: An oversized cornflower blue menswear blazer, worn over a color-blocked white and blue shirt, paired with painted white jeans, enamel and silver pendent necklaces and outdoorsy slides.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Statement pendants in silver and gold and drop earrings as part of a collaboration with local artist Leonard Urso. White denim jeans given an art-class refresh via a paint-rolled effect in blue and pink. Bonsai bucket bags with cylindrical handles, inspired by a trip to Yamagata, Japan.
