INSPIRED BY: St. George’s commitment to fostering local emerging design talent, the latest installment of the NexGen series spotlighted upstarts Alissa R, Chris Ran Lin, Gina Snodgrass and Of Ro.
POP-CULTURE NOD: From looks paying homage to Derek Zoolander, to denim, mad scientist getups inspired by Emmett Lathrop “Doc” Brown, Ph.D. ala Back to the Future, the quartet delivered a vast range of unique collections, as wearable on the streets of New York as a high-society summer spritzer alike.
WEAR IT TO: Your debut interview with the freshly-minted fashion editor of GQ at Shoreditch House in East London, followed by a quick change before rooftop drinks at the Rumpus Room atop of the Mondrian Hotel in South Bank to watch the sunset behind St Paul’s Cathedral while downing overpriced champagne on said editor’s unlimited bar tab.
FIRST READ: Androgynous lace shirting, deconstructed white separates featuring layered bronze leather inserts and flyaway detailing, oversized denim with frayed edges, and chunky, athletic knits sporting cheeky cutouts formed part of the experimental lineup, which toed the line between downtown hipster and Chelsea art scenester.
BEST LOOK: A white long-sleeve dress featuring an asymmetrical hemline and sheer floor-grazing paneling and a beauty queen-style sash and wrinkled bronze leather accents, styled with matching white booties and a David Bowie-esque 90’s-looking backcombed quiff.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Chunky woolen sleeves worn as scarves, white sneakers with colored piping on the sole, clear lab glasses styled with lab coat-inspired white looks, double denim in a variety of washes, and knitted shoe covers worn over the top of kicks, elevating menswear from the street to evening-appropriate attire.
