Tribeca Grill – The Lowdown
Tribeca Grill has a private-member’s club, Soho House aesthetic, helped by the fact it’s owned by actor Robert De Niro. Exposed brick, dim lighting, and artwork painted by De Niro’s dad add to the homely neighborhood vibe, while the rich mahogany bar is the perfect place to perch with a stiff drink while on the lookout for an impromptu celebrity drive-by. The restaurant has both a gallery and loft event space with a private entrance (for those times when you want to avoid the paparazzi). Also a drawcard among the Tribeca Film Festival crowd is the 72-seat screening room – perfect for the premier of your latest indie feature flick. The menu focuses on steakhouse and American fare, and the wine list is plentiful, with a focus on California, Burgundy, and Rhône varieties. De Niro co-owns the space with restaurateur Drew Nieporent, along with a host of notable investors, including Sean Penn, Bill Murray, and Christopher Walken, to name a few. Keep an eye out for the Tribeca resident on your next visit; he owns a rustic penthouse on top of the nearby Greenwich Hotel.
