Thomas Puttick Resort 2019 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The desire to create a collection in celebration of all women, regardless of age, ethnicity or background. Titled, Variations on a Floral Theme, designer Thomas Puttick focused on pared-back minimalism with a utilitarian edge, featuring feminine accents to keep things light and breezy.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Sharon Stone running errands with a friend in Beverly Hills following a tell-all with Grazia Magazine on her commitment to women’s rights.
WEAR IT TO: The screening of the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival’s Best Screenplay winner, Women Who Kill, at Soho House.
FIRST READ: Smart tailoring and a neutral palette combined to create a collection suitable for women of every age, while the use of luxe fabrics and girly accents – such as lace detailing on a silk slip dress – elevated looks suited to the boardroom to happy-hour status.
BEST LOOK: A black strapless chiffon maxi dress, ruched at the bust to create a paperbag effect, styled with strappy heels and minimal makeup.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Designer Puttick’s exploration of femininity and power was solidified by his spate of muses, which included Yvonne Tozzi, Dina Broadhurst, and Labor MP Anne Aly. The set’s delicate floral arrangement added to the collection’s Japanese vibe, while the use of sheer fabrics and cheeky lace detailing upped the lineup’s flirty edge.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I love the designer’s focus on diversity and inclusion. I still can’t believe he’s only 23.”
COLOR WHEEL: Black, white, mauve, sand, cement.
