Tibi NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The idea of employing a vacation-ready approach to everyday dressing in a gender-neutral format and breezy color palette. Designer Amy Smilovic shied away from her popular smock dresses of previous seasons in favor of a return to resort dressing, with a sharpened focus on smart tailoring and clean lines.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Oliver Palermo designing the ‘anti-uniform’ attire for the air hostesses at New York’s ‘Uber-for-helicopters’ startup, Blade, which offers private charters on demand. Think the sort of getup you’d don for a cheeky weekend jaunt to Nantucket or Palm Beach.
WEAR IT TO: A night aboard the 74-foot Calypso yacht docked at 59 Chelsea Piers, before welcoming a select handful of influencers to your presentation on the tropical-themed docked boat the next day.
FIRST READ: Classic suiting and relaxed, menswear shirting and vests, with linen drawstring skirts featured in earthy tones. Also key were oversized blazers and floaty dresses in buttery hues, while a series of color-blocked cocktail numbers with balloon sleeves are sure to be in-demand with brand’s devotees.
BEST LOOK: A pastel pink coat, shown on a man and worn open over a mesh lemon top, paired with lilac pull-up shorts and black flip flops.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Flats and sheer booties in black and white showcased the collection’s versatility and ability to get you from home to the office on a hot Manhattan NYC summer day. Accessories were kept minimal, save for a peppering of boxy clutches and foldable grandma-esque bowler bags in snakeskin and an array of darker options.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Do you remember when Tibi had the blowout sample sale in Stamford, Connecticut? That was worth a trip on the Metro North.”
COLOR WHEEL: Navy, lemon, white, cream, rust, camel, soft pink, cobalt, green, brown, black.
