Tom Ford NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Netflix series, Babylon Berlin, a German period drama about a police commissioner who investigates on of the city’s biggest pornography rings of the Golden Twenties.
POP-CULTURE NOD: A Whitney Museum exhibition of Tom Ford’s most epic Gucci advertising campaigns of the 1990’s, hosted by Kate Moss.
WEAR IT TO: Your debut mission as a freshly-minted FBI agent tasked with going undercover to seduce a corrupt promoter running a drug ring out of Meatpacking’s Up & Down nightclub.
FIRST READ: For his latest collection, Ford stuck mostly to an ensemble of pencil midi skirts with lace detailing, athletic tanks and leather jackets or sportif bombers, in a throwback to the bossy power dressing of the 90’s supermodel era. Also key were the array of black cocktail dresses in similar silhouettes, while fringed accents added a touch of Gatsby-glamor to column dresses in white and aubergine.
BEST LOOK: A white blazer worn over a v-neck sheer lace top, paired with a matching skirt and black heels.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Black and nude headscarves worn throughout, ostrich feather coats and stoles styled over vampy cocktail frocks, faux crocodile on edgy jackets, skirts and bags, and Mary Jane pumps in blue, lavender and champagne.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Anna Wintour, Cardi B, Paris Jackson, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Henry Golding, Adrianna Lima, Russell Westbrook, Hailee Steinfeld, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Suki Waterhouse, Laura Love, Elizabeth Debicki, Bonner Bolton, Calu Rivero, Caroline Vreeland, Celeste Barber, Gina Gershon, Hannah Bronfman, Jacey Duprie, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Michael Huisman, Patti Hansen, Pom Klementieff, Salem Mitchell,
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Oh how the world has changed since Kendall Jenner walked in the final section of the Tom Ford show last year…”
COLOR WHEEL: Black, white, taupe, mauve, camel, blue, champagne.
