Tome NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Impressionist painters Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot, both of whom resided in France, as well as an overarching feminist aesthetic, which influenced the design duo’s modern leisure lineup.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Tilda Swinton holding hands with Dakota Johnson on the red carpet for the premiere of the Luca Guadagnino-directed dance thriller, Suspiria, at the Venice Film Festival.
WEAR IT TO: Catch a reprise of Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour at the Lyric Theater on Broadway in New York. Set in the world of Golden Age Hollywood, the spectacle spins the tale of a young poet forced to choose between love and art, marking a subtle resemblance to Tome’s latest collection.
FIRST READ: Designers Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin marked their return to the runway format via a series of menswear-style waistcoats with tassel accents, pinstripe suiting, shirts with tie detail, concertina skirts and dresses, and tie-died looks, which added to the show’s 90’s vibe.
BEST LOOK: An oversized chartreuse and olive button-up, tied at the front and styled over a matching skirt, styled with Teva sandals with white tassel accents and gold fern earrings.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Dip-dye totes in pastel shades, Reef-esque sandals, worn throughout, and a focus on sustainable fabrics – think organic cotton, hemp and linen.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Cipriana Quann, TK Wonder, Jessica Hart, Emily Mercer, Hassan Pierre, Tamu McPherson, Margaret Zhang, Chloe King, Kristen Ritchie, Christine Barberich, Caroline Issa, Caroline Griswold.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Are you going to the Gypsey Sport after-party tonight? I think my liver’s broken.”
COLOR WHEEL: Peach, rust, white, olive, apricot, cream, blush, navy, powder blue, black.
