Tomo Koizumi NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Japanese shōjo manga series Sailor Moon, Italian fashion designer Roberto Capucci, and Australian performance artist and club promoter, Leigh Bowery. Designer Tomo Koizumi staged his show in the basement of Marc Jacobs’ store on Madison Avenue to a crowd of packed crowd, all in awe of his fantastical creations.
POP-CULTURE NOD: The Powderpuff Girls auditioning for the role of Belle in a cartoon remake of Disney classic, Beauty and the Beast.
WEAR IT TO: Make your own colorful cocktails aboard a double-decker bus at the Alice in Wonderland-themed pop-up experience helmed by the Mad Hatter in Brooklyn.
FIRST READ: An explosion of color and lesson in layering via organza mini dresses covered in organza ruffles, presented in clashing neons and pastel hues. Floor-length options and high-low frocks with trains presented a suite of red-carpet ready options for boundary-pushing fashionistas.
BEST LOOK: A powder blue bodysuit covered in organza ruffles, cinched at the waist with a purple belt and featuring a peacock-like back in cornflower, cobalt and navy.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: T-shirts featuring the Statue of Liberty covered with a tongue-in-cheek mouth with braces, and white rabbits who were featured throughout the performance space.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I think Lady Gaga wore one of his gowns in Tokyo while promoting Joanne in Tokyo.
