Ulla Johnson F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Johnson’s concerns about the global outlook and the desire to recreate a sense of serenity and calm via a collection that danced with an airy, ethereal feel. Think the ultimate ode to female empowerment.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Rachel Bilson keeping warm next to co-star Eddie Cibrian on the set of the new TV series Take Two in Vancouver.
WEAR IT TO: A champagne cocktail reception under the stars before catching jazz group The Hot Sardines’ opening night debut at the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in the Hudson Valley.
FIRST READ: Chunky knits with matching mittens and scarves were given a dose of street-style cred when paired with wide-leg trousers and woolen skirts. Taffeta jumpsuits and tie-front dresses gave flirty looks a sophisticated edge, as did off-the-shoulder peasant frocks and lurex cocktail dresses.
BEST LOOK: A sparkly off-the-shoulder gold sequin paper-bag dress, styled with apricot lurex socks and peach velvet tie-up heels.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Models walked the runway amid elaborate floristry displays that played to the show’s in-the-woods vibe, while the models’ Heidi braids added a milkmaid edge to the lineup. Patchwork vests and shag shealing coats and leather bucket bags added a gritty urban element to the mix.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Do you think I could email the PR to find out who did the flowers? They match the dress I’m wearing to my engagement party.”
COLOR WHEEL: Pink, white, ivory, black, rust, apricot, emerald, forest green, taupe, yellow, mustard.
BEATS: New York-based band Vagabon curated the show from off to the side of the runway.
