Vaquera S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The concept of gender fluidity and rebellion against the status quo. Designers David Moses, Patric DiCaprio, Bryn Taubensee and Claire Sully served up a suite of androgynous looks with a subtle nod to Andy Warhol’s take on consumerism.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Lady Gaga partying with 16 of her closest friends at her $10,000-per-night Coachella vacation rental after dropping a new track at the festival to fans under the stars.
WEAR IT TO: Bring-your-own-grocery-bags to the local bodega after school to pick up the bare necessities to curb your Seamless addiction.
FIRST READ: A blazer, men’s shorts and cowboy hat covered in license-plate print, played to the show’s Western traveler theme, while striped top worn with a nautical sailor’s hat continued the transportation nod. Deconstructed shirts featuring a college-style tie and a grey tee with a fuchsia hibiscus print marched in line with the brand’s penchant for delivering reimagined takes on standard themes.
BEST LOOK: A chain dress made of credit cards with the brand’s name substituted for the Hollywood sign, worn with dark-brown men’s leather loafers.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: A male model blustering down the runway with a bunch of plastic and brown-paper shopping bags in a striped wrap dress. Think the sort of undressed look a Lower East Side-hipster might don while dashing for breakfast hungover at 4PM.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I think one of the interns from my work actually boxes here even though he lives in Long Island.”
COLOR WHEEL: Lemon, lilac, maroon, red, pink, taupe, white, mustard, black, brown.
