Zero + Maria Cornejo NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Powerful feminist icons such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Coretta Scott King, and Indira Gandhi, designer Maria Cornejo cited Chilean painter Gracia Barrios as key behind the creation of a print used throughout the collection.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Amal Clooney meeting with Soho’s top designer Verity Charles on the recommendation of Meghan Markle, amid hopes of recreating the Soho House style at her and George’s Sonning-on-Thames house in London.
WEAR IT TO: The Women’s March Chicago rally in Grant Park on Oct.13 to encourage women – particularly first-time voters – to cast their ballots, before heading to West Loop to debrief over a frozen margarita.
FIRST READ: Relaxed suiting and wearable separates with a focus on sustainability through the use of organic linen and denim. Cornejo offered up wrap dresses and billowy jackets with ruched hemlines, a series of evening silk gowns in cream and orange, and a series of separates covered in her custom face silhouette print.
BEST LOOK: A navy knee-length dress with a deep-v ruched neckline and a light blue stripe pattern, styled with black slides.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Did you see the wristband with the phrase, “I’m a voter,” printed on it like at a festival? Brilliant.”
COLOR WHEEL: Orange, white, cream, camel, brown, navy, light blue, black, slate.
