Zimmermann NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Nicky Zimmermann’s fondness for the Australian 1970’s soap opera, Number 96, based on a four-storey inner city apartment block in Sydney’s Paddington suburb.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Heather Graham as rollergirl Brandy in Boogie Nights. Think Picnic at Hanging Rock-meets-Vanessa Hudgens at Coachella.
WEAR IT TO: Watch a special screening of Charlie’s Angels on the big screen at Central Park, before heading to a roller disco at Lola Star’s Dreamland open-air rink in Brooklyn.
FIRST READ: Paisley prints on cropped vests, mini dresses and blazer-pant combos gave off a distinct 70’s vibe, while ladylike dresses and tops featuring a cut-out pattern and napkin-like effect seemed as suited to Sunday mass as to a night on the town. Meanwhile, double-stitching on low-waisted jeans and detailed embroidery on shirting added a vintage Western vibe to the lineup.
BEST LOOK: A navy and light blue one-shoulder mini dress in a paisley print featuring a ruffled high neck and side cut-outs, styled with matching heels, a gold chain-link anklet and statement drop earring.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Jessica Simpson-worthy short-shorts, staked flip flops, vintage tracksuits with side stripes, and pretty summer frocks worn with slip-on sneakers.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Katie Holmes, Molly Sims, Alice Eve, Jessica Hart, Nicky Hilton, Olivia Palermo, Karolina Kurkova, Sofia Richie, Camila Mendes, Sky Katz, Sailor Brinkley Cook.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “This show always makes me want to go to Australia.”
COLOR WHEEL: Powder blue, white, khaki, maroon, navy, mustard, brown, camel.
